Painting Steps

Basecoating the Body

  • Prime the model in Chaos Black or Grey Seer.
  • Apply Stegadon Scale Green to all the main armored scales.
  • Basecoat the underbelly, tongue, and large horns with Zandri Dust .
  • Paint the banner pole with Dryad Bark and the metal topper with Balthasar Gold .

Scaling and Shading

  • Apply a generous layer of Akhelian Green over all the teal scales to define the recesses.
  • Wash the underbelly and horns with Agrax Earthshade to bring out the texture.
  • Use Magos Purple on the soft fin membranes and the edges of the tongue to create a color transition.

Layering and Highlights

  • Drybrush the main scales with Sotek Green , then a lighter edge highlight of Temple Guard Blue on the tips.
  • Layer Ushabti Bone on the underbelly ridges and horns, leaving the darker wash in the deep grooves.
  • Apply a final fine highlight of Screaming Skull to the sharpest points of the horns and teeth.

Oceanic Base

  • Basecoat the water area with Kantor Blue .
  • Layer the crests of the waves with Lothern Blue .
  • Stipple White Scar onto the wave foam and splashing water for a realistic spray effect.
  • Apply a thin glaze of Akhelian Green in the deep troughs of the waves for depth.

Finishing Touches

  • Paint the eyes with a dot of bright orange or yellow.
  • Apply Nihilakh Oxide to the bronze parts of the banner to simulate sea-salt corrosion.
  • Add a thin highlight of Genestealer Purple to the very tips of the fins for a vibrant pop.
